TeleGAN at the Americas Agri-Food Forum 2025
On June 17, 2025, TeleGAN participated in the Sustainable Livestock Production Panel at the Americas Agri-Food and Security Forum, a high-level hemispheric event organized by IICA and IFAD at Olds College, Alberta. The Forum brought together stakeholders from across the Americas to discuss agriculture, food systems, and sustainability.
The panel showcased voices from Mexico, Guatemala, Canada, and Colombia, highlighting inclusive approaches to livestock sustainability. 🌱
Josefina Méndez, a young indigenous rancher and educator from Chiapas, Mexico, shared her personal journey of breaking traditional roles and envisioning ranching systems where local collaboration and women’s leadership drive change.
Marta Melgar, a fourth-generation dairy farmer and association leader from Guatemala, reflected on climate challenges and the need for stronger networks among producers to face them collectively.
Ryan Beierbah, rancher and Vice President of the Canadian Cattle Association, emphasized the importance of data-driven collaboration, producer engagement, and certified sustainable beef strategies in Canada.
Germán Serrano, Coordinator of the Colombian Roundtable for Sustainable Livestock, underlined the importance of public policy, multistakeholder platforms, and landscape-level planning for a more resilient livestock sector.
The panel was moderated by TeleGAN's International Coordinator, Vivian Argüelles, and emphasized collaboration, landscape-level planning, inclusivity, and the role of youth in building a sustainable livestock future.
