Strengthening livestock farming from the ground up
With satellite technology, local knowledge and community collaboration.
Mission
TeleGAN was born from a shared vision between livestock farming communities, local governments, universities and international partners to transform family livestock farming in Mexico and Guatemala into a more resilient, sustainable and inclusive model.
We start from a common reality: technology advances, but rarely arrives adapted to the territory. We seek to close this gap, bringing tools such as remote sensing and promoting the adoption of sustainable livestock practices, integrating them with local knowledge through citizen science and collective learning spaces, through Field Schools and Demonstration/Research Plots.
We do all this with an inclusive approach, encouraging the participation of women, youth and indigenous communities so that no one is left behind.
TeleGAN is funded by the Government of Canada and implemented by IICA, with the support of local partners committed to sustainable livestock.
Our history
To be a hemispheric reference in innovation for livestock sustainability, promoting local solutions with global reach.
Vision
Strengthen family livestock farming and move towards more sustainable, resilient and inclusive systems in the face of climate change, through technological tools, collective action from the territory and the adoption of practices adapted to ecosystems.
How do we make an impact?

Livestock farming families
We support livestock farming families in improving their production systems, strengthening their capacities to identify and implement sustainable practices adapted to their conditions. Through field schools and exchanges of experiences, we promote informed decisions that integrate technological tools, local knowledge and relevant data for each territory.

Rural Women
We promote their active participation and recognition of their role in livestock farming, recognising the structural barriers they face. For this reason, we create spaces for training, visibility and leadership, with technical support adapted to their trajectories and needs.
At TeleGAN we work with different actors in the territory to strengthen their capacities, connect technology with the local context and promote adapted solutions that improve livestock sustainability.

Rural Youth
We promote the role of youth in livestock sustainability, connecting their creativity with emerging technologies and rural transformation processes and generating opportunities that strengthen their roots in the territory.

Government Actors and Decision Makers
We seek to contribute to the formulation of more effective and inclusive public policies, generating evidence from the field and promoting spaces for direct communication between farmers and decision-makers.
Researchers, academics and students

We facilitate collaboration with universities and technical schools, promoting the generation of useful and applicable knowledge. We support students to carry out their internships, social service or thesis within the project, and we provide inputs and opportunities for research related to sustainable livestock farming, citizen science and technologies applied to the territory.

Indigenous Communities
We work with Maya Ch'ol communities in Chiapas and Maya Achi in Baja Verapaz, recognising their deep knowledge of the territory and its productive systems. We support their adaptation and resilience efforts in the face of climate change through participatory processes, such as citizen science and field schools, always respecting their ways of life, knowledge and community organisation.
